About Pinoso – our lovely village!
Pinoso (four kilometres from our B&B) is situated in the province of Alicante and in the Valencia region. In Valencian, it is called El Pinós. Pinoso has a new medical centre and you will even find a small theatre, and a beautiful park for a picnic with free use of fresh and cool spring water, BBQ and places to sit.
Pinoso has a rural lifestyle. There are no traffic lights here as there is hardly any traffic, apart from the winemakers who bring the grapes to the bodega with their tractors. The fields around Pinoso are planted not only with vines, but also with almonds and olives. In the early spring, almond blossom turns the fields pink. Pinoso has many bars, restaurants and shops, as it is a magnet for the area. There is a big market in the centre – Plaza de Colón – between 9am and 2pm on Saturdays and a smaller one on Wednesdays.

Vibrant week of festivities
During the Fiestas Patronales, in honour of the Virgen del Remedio, Pinoso receives a large number of visitors, who come to enjoy the attractions of the fair, the release of the heifers, fireworks, parades, musical performances, etc. They are held from 1 to 8 August, although some events already take place in the days before and the festivities certainly reach their climax on 9 August, with the traditional “Socarrat”.Pendulum clock in the bell tower
The bell tower is not to be missed. It was built some 200 years ago on one of the highest spots in Pinoso’s historic centre. The clock is wound up with a pendulum, like a cuckoo clock. The three weights of 500, 200 and 100 kilos each have their own function. The heaviest one is for the hours, the middle one for the quarters and the smaller one keeps the clock ticking. Visitors are welcome to see both the clock and the clapper.
Parish church of San Pedro Apóstol
Construction of the parish church of San Pedro Apóstol began almost 400 years ago, on the site of a historic hermitage. Step by step, the church was enlarged, including a communion chapel, between the bell tower and the chapel of the Immaculate Conception. After the Spanish Civil War, there was extensive restoration. Many of the altars and images date from that time.
The Pouet, sign of the times
At the beginning of the road from Pinoso to Raspay stands ‘El Pouet’. This small building is privately owned and was used for many years as a water supplier, with the basins being used as watering places for the farm workers’ horses, but was also used by local women as a washing place.
There were other “pouets” in the village, such as the one in the Plaza de Colón next to the old market.
Cucos (Cuckoos)
Curious rural dry-stone structures concentrated in the northern part of the municipality. Their origin relates to the passage of grazing cattle through our region, where they were used as shelters for shepherds, although farmers in the area also used this type of building to watch over their crops. In some cases, we find enclosures next to the cuckoo to concentrate the animals, also made of dry stone.
Hermitage of Monte Cabezo
On Mount Cabezo, so dear to the hearts of Pinoso’s residents, there has been a chapel dedicated to the Virgen de Fátima since the 1950s, around which recreational houses have been built and which, given its proximity to Pinoso’s centre, is home to an increasing number of year-round residents. It was remodelled in the mid-1990s.
Hermitage of Santa Catalina
It was built in 1989, excavated into the rock of a small hill, on the site of a drinking water depot that existed from 1926 to 1974. Until then, the hermitage was located in a space built in the 1970s, which has now been converted into the Social Centre of the Santa Catalina neighbourhood. The current chapel houses the statue of the neighbourhood’s patron saint, Santa Catalina, and that of the risen Christ, who takes part in the last of the Holy Week processions in Pinoso.
The Pinoso salt dome
Mount Cabezo de la Sal, also known as Cerro de la Sal, (five kilometres south of Pinoso) is one of the distinctive icons of the landscape of Pinoso and the Medio Vinalopó, with a unique geological, botanical, fauna and cultural value. It is not only a striking mountain among the pines, but also one of the most important sites for salt extraction in the whole of Spain. Mixed with water, the salt is transported as brine through pipelines to the lagoons of Torrevieja and La Mata. For visitors to the area, the trail to the top of the mountain offers a varied walking route of 10 kilometres. The trail passes through several canyons culminating in ‘la Cueva de los Gigantes’ where you can see crystallised gem salt.

An experience for “your five senses”
2-hour tour of the rooms where the grapes are registered and fermented, the storage halls, the barrel rooms and the tasting rooms. During the visit, the production process of rosé, white and red wines will be explained and a tasting of four wines and a light aperitif will be offered.

The essence of Sierra Salinas
Another way to visit vineyards in Alicante. The landscapes and the remarkable winemaking process make Sierra Salinas worth a visit for wine lovers. Tour of 1.5 to 2 hours through the vineyards and a visit to the winery, learning more about the meticulous process of winemaking (DO Alicante).

One of the major wineries
Offering tours that are an excellent way to get to know our winery, Algueña and our wines. A visit to the vineyard, followed by a visit to the winery while enjoying a glass of one of our wines, ending with a guided tasting of all our wines and a variety of the best products from Algueña.

Restaurant El Racó de Pere i Pepa

Owned and run by married couple Pere and Pepa, with the former in charge of the kitchen and the latter in charge of the dining room. Located along the lane leading into town from Jumilla, it features a terrace at the entrance and a two-storey interior decorated in a rustic, contemporary style. Pere conjures up traditional and regionally inspired dishes with a contemporary twist, including seven different rice dishes plus fideuá, and tempting house specialities such as sirloin steak with foie gras and a port wine sauce. The restaurant organises interesting food events.

A restaurant with a long family history that has moved with the times without losing touch with its roots. Located in the centre of the village, the discreet facade hides a pleasantly renovated interior with a contemporary feel, including a glass wine cellar and an open grill. The most admirable features here are the respect shown for traditional regional recipes and cooking methods, with many dishes grilled over embers in time-honoured ways. Rice dishes are the speciality (the rice with rabbit and snails is particularly impressive), although it also offers typical recipes such as roasted almonds and “gachamiga”, a typical local dish.

Font del Llop nearby Aspe
It is now common knowledge that golf has long since ceased to be an elite sport, in fact it has become popular. This popularity is reflected in the growing number of golf clubs, golf courses are becoming more accessible so it has also become easier to play golf even if you are not a member of a golf club. Similarly at Font del Llop, located just 10 minutes from Alicante International Airport, surrounded by vineyards, almond trees and millennial olive trees, the Font del Llop golf course consists of 18 holes par 72, fully integrated into the landscape of the area and, with its American and Scottish shapes, it is great for all levels and types of players.
An eye for old aqueducts
Bridge with the five eyes, 17 metres high and 46 metres long
From Aspe, east of Pinoso, a beautiful hiking trail leads to the Vinalopó River. The route passes two aqueducts built in the mid-18th century: Puente de Los 4 Ojos and Puente de los 5 Ojos. The names refer to the number of arches (‘ojos’ literally means ‘eyes’) of these bridges. Between the aqueducts are the remains of an old ice house. Nature is very beautiful here and a steep path from the Puente de los 5 Ojos takes you to a viewpoint with impressive views of the Pantano de Elche water reservoir.
Pure Nature
Almost in our backyard are beautiful natural parks for walking, hiking and mountain biking.
- Sierra del Maigmó with a rocky mountain peak, hiking trails and climbing routes, overlooking the coast from its 1296m peak.
- Parque Natural El Hondo which is formed by a number of lagoons, the two largest of which are man-made and called Levante.
- Nature Park Monte Coto lies in the Sierra del Reclot and passes through the municipalities of Monovar and Pinoso, among others.
Cycling or mountain bike routes
In Alicante province, cyclists (and walkers) can enjoy a beautiful walking and cycling path along the Mediterranean Sea. Located between San Juan beach and the town of Campello, this route is ideal for the whole family. The route is 26 kilometres long and, once at the end, you can take a tram back to the starting point.

Horse riding in Pinoso
Club Hípico Fran Sáez Pinoso
Here you can ride horses in a responsible manner. The club is dedicated to providing riding lessons, for children and adults, from level 0 to advanced level, dressage and cowgirl. You can book for scenic routes through the Pinoso countryside.
Day at the beach
Those who like to enjoy Spanish beaches will have a great time at;
- Playa del Postiguet
Located near the heart of the city, El Postiguet is one of the most popular beaches in the area. When you’re done swimming and sunbathing, pop into one of the many cafés that line this beach. - Playa de San Juan
The long and wide beach, awarded the Blue Flag (for clean water and beach, among other things), is just a perfect place to enjoy the sea, especially for families with children. - Playa Centro (Guardamar)
The most urban of the beaches in Guardamar is hugely popular in summer. - Playa La Marina (El Pinet)
A very nice beach with dunes you can walk in, no bed rentals and parking close by.
The caves of Canelobre
The Canelobre caves are located in Busot, Alicante. It is located about 30 km north of Alicante, at an altitude of 700 metres in the northern foothills of the Cabezón de Oro. Inside the cave are the highest archways in Spain, one of which is about 70 m high, similar to that of a cathedral. During your visit, you can observe the whimsical limestone deposits that look like chandeliers, jellyfish, organs and numerous other forms.
Pádel Pinoso
Pádel is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. It is often seen as a mix between tennis and squash. Two racquet sports that have been practised by many players for many years. Pádel is a relatively young sport that combines fast action with lots of fun. It is a suitable sport for people of all ages and levels.

In our region, there are nice villages to visit.

Abanilla is a labyrinth of narrow alleys connected by beautiful squares and monuments. - Aspe
Aspe is founded on textiles, shoes and a special grape variety. Visit the historic centre, the Basilica de Nuestra Castillo del rio. - Cañada del Trigo
Here you will find cooperative, small wineries. There are also two popular bar-restaurants. - Casas del Señor
At the foot of Monte Coto among beautiful flora and fauna. Sights include the beautiful bell tower at the church and the medieval aqueduct. - Chinorlet
The village is surrounded by spruce trees of the National Park. A Hiking trip to neighbouring Casas del Señor is definitely recommended. - Tres Fuentes
This is the smallest village in the community, located in a beautiful natural area. An often visited destination to spend a day in the nature of Monte Coto. Tres Fuentes is located at 550 metres above sea level.
